Dr. Ahmed Hawwa obtained his PhD in Clinical Pharmacy from Queen’s University Belfast in 2007, in the area of pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics of anti-cancer and immunosuppressive therapy in children. He was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Queen’s in February 2009. The primary focus of his research is to develop and explore methods and systems in the context of clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice that lead to safer and more effective use of medicines, particularly in children. Currently, he is involved in a series of research projects within the Clinical and Practice Research cluster which emphasise on population pharmacokinetic modelling and sparse data analysis,  genetic profiling and pharmacogenetic analysis, analysis of medicines in low-volume body fluids (including innovative research on dried blood spots and micro-analytical techniques) together with the various aspects of ethics associated with research in children and survey design.
