Dr Bronagh Byrne was appointed as Research Fellow for Children’s Rights in July 2009. Based in the School of Education, Bronagh’s post focuses specifically on developing expertise in relation to children’s rights-based approaches to research and service design. As a member of the Queen’s University Research Forum for the Child, Bronagh jointly co-ordinates the Forum’s ‘Exploring Children’s Rights’ Special Interest Group.
Bronagh has expertise in the areas of international human rights law, children’s rights, disability, equality and inclusion, and qualitative methodologies with particular focus on the application of children’s rights standards to local practice.
Bronagh’s background is in the area of disability and education, in which she attained her doctorate. Before coming to Queen’s, Bronagh worked for the Centre on Human Rights for People with Disabilities. Bronagh previously sat on the Northern Ireland Bill of Rights Children and Young People’s Working Group; the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People’s (NICCY) Children’s Rights Review Advisory Group; and the Children with Disabilities Strategic Alliance.
