James C. McElnay is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Chair of the Clinical and Practice Research Group in the School of Pharmacy at the Queen’s. He is a past president and Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.  He took up the position of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Queen’s in 2005.  His main research interest is in developing processes and systems which lead to the safe and effective use of medicines within both primary and secondary care.   Major ongoing projects involve pharmaceutical care / integrated medicines management (IMM) and improving the evidence base for medicine use in children.  He is a founder member and past chairman of the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe (PCNE).
