Thesis title: Understandings of ‘respect for diversity’ within primary schools in a post-conflict society.
Supervisors: Professor Evanthia Lyons (School of Psychology) and Dr Ulrike Niens (School of Education).
Stephanie graduated with a first-class honours degree (B.A.) in Politics in 2004 and a Master’s degree (M.Res.) in Social Research Methods in 2006 from Queen’s University Belfast. Since then, she has conducted research and evaluation work in the voluntary and community sector with the Irish Peace Centres programme and with Pima Prevention Partnership in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Her current PhD work involves conducting focus groups with Year 4 and Year 7 children and interviewing adult stakeholders (teachers, parents and educational policymakers) in order to explore the construct of ‘respect for diversity’ and its application in schools, with the eventual aim of developing a measure of respect.
