Cognition, Development and Education
The focus of the group is on cognitive, developmental and educational research. The aim of our research is to increase understanding of how children learn and how they change across developmental spans. We have particular interests in the applications of our research to education. Most of the research is carried out in schools, and is either classroom-based or involves working with children individually.

Family Policy and Child Welfare
The Centre for Family Policy and Child Welfare (FPCW) is one of four research groups based at the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. It is the leading research centre for social policy research relating to children and their families in Ireland.

Maternal and Child Health
The maternal and child health research theme, is a multi-disciplinary theme which focuses on high risk groups in pregnancy, childbirth, infancy and childhood. There are two central strands of work, maternity care research and child health research, which have been developed using a comprehensive approach ranging from study of the health of populations to the health of individuals and the care that they receive and require.
